Description
Cedrus is an evergreen tree growing up to 30–40 m height. It can tolerate colder temperatures up to -25 °C. The color of its needle-like leaves varies from blue-green to silver-gray or rarely light or dark green, 8–60 mm long, arranged in an open spiral phyllotaxis on long shoots. The cones are 5-8 cm long. They do not require so much sun; however they may grow best if planted in temperate climates subjected to sun exposure. There are differences among species in terms of humidity requirement. They prefer partial shade. Some species grow fast and some grow slower. They may be cultivated in sandy, lime orclay soils. Propagation is by seed or grafting. Cedrus is not recommended for small gardens and it is a gorgeous tree for open, large areas.
