Taxus is genus of slow growing shrubs or trees with long lifespan and growing up to 40 m. The fruits in 0.5 cm diameter are eaten by birds. Needle-like leaves are 1-2.5 cm long and dark green. Reddish brown bark grooves irregularly and decomposes. The fruits are red and look like small strawberries. They are vulnerable against frosts. They are able to produce log twigs. As they can be shaped by trimmer, they are preferred species for landscaping. Although they like temperate climates they resist to cold habitats as well. They grow in shade or in partial shade
