Description

With about 430 species, Prunus is distributed to the north temperate regions of the world. Many of its species are planted for ornamental purposes and for their fruits. There are deciduous species of shrubs and trees. The leaves are simple and falcate; there is nectar on petioles. The flowers bloom red, white or pink in late winter or in early spring. Generally flowers and sometimes bark and leaves are used in landscaping projects.
