Cinnamomum, belonging to Lauraceae family and native to China and Japan, is an evergreen tree with aromatic odor. It may grow up to 30 m height. Brown bark is course-textured and with vertical splits. The thick, leathery leaves are 10-12 cm long, ovate-elliptic, margin entire, with acute apices. The flowers are small and whitish yellow in panicles. Little garbanzo sized fruits are berrylike. They can grow under sun or partial shade in clay or loamy soils. On the contrary, they do not grow best in heavy and very alkali soil. They are ideal to provide shade in landscaping. They can also be used as roadside trees
