Description
Liquidambar trees are large, deciduous trees with wide crown, naturally distributed in Turkey, growing up to 40 m. The leaves resemble the leaves of Sycamore at first. Mature bark is vertically grooved although it is smooth when young. The bark becomes darker as it gets old, and deep grooves are appeared. Palmate, lobed leaves are arranged on the shoots. It has very attractive appearance with the leaves turning to dark red in autumn and with its corked bark in winter and with pendant fruits. The flowers are globular, and adorned with small red inflorescence. When the flower is matured, it becomes a spinny cone and its color turns to grayish green. The fruit overhangs at the tip of a long branch. When matured it solidifies and then the capsule is opened and the seeds fall down.
